Yes. Dry eyes, mild glare, and halos around lights at night are very common during the initial healing phase. Your doctor will prescribe lubricating eye drops to help comfortably manage these temporary symptoms.
The procedure itself is virtually painless due to numbing eye drops. As the drops wear off, you may experience a temporary gritty feeling, watering, or mild discomfort for 4–6 hours. Severe pain is not expected.
Mobile / TV / Screen use: Rest for the first 24 hours; resume gradually from the next day.
Office work & Driving: Usually within 1–2 days, depending on comfort.
Heavy gym workouts & Swimming: Avoid heavy exercise for 1 week and swimming/saunas for at least 2–3 weeks.
Absolutely do not rub your eyes for at least 2–3 weeks, as this can dislodge the corneal flap. You can bathe your body from the neck down, but avoid getting direct tap water or soap into your eyes for the first week. Avoid eye makeup for 1–2 weeks.
LASIK permanently corrects your current prescription. However, it cannot stop the natural aging process of the eye. Most people will still require standard reading glasses for close-up vision as they reach their mid-40s (a condition called presbyopia).
